Product information
VIP stands for vasoactive intestinal peptide. It is a peptide of 28 amino acids that occurs naturally in the body. The name tells you where it was first found, in the intestine, and what it acts on: the blood vessels.
VIP fits two receptors, VPAC1 and VPAC2. These are found in, among other places, the intestinal wall, the lungs and the walls of blood vessels. In the vessel wall, the smooth muscle layer relaxes as soon as VIP binds to those receptors, which widens the blood vessel.
