Product information
ARA-290 is a chain of eleven amino acids. That chain is modelled on one piece of erythropoietin, the body's own protein better known as EPO. Only the surface of helix B is in it, not the rest of the molecule. Hence the second name: pHBSP, or pyroglutamate helix B surface peptide.
EPO fits two different switches. The first is the classic EPO receptor, and that is the switch for the production of red blood cells. The second is that same receptor together with CD131, also called the β-common receptor. That second one sits on nerve cells and on cells of the immune system. ARA-290 is cut so that it only fits that second one. The switch for red blood cells is left untouched.
In the literature ARA-290 mostly turns up around that second route, at nerve cells and at inflammatory responses. There it also goes by the names cibinetide and ARA290.
