SS-31 is a tetrapeptide that is also called Elamipretide, MTP-131 or Bendavia in the literature. With four amino acids, it is one of the smallest peptides in our range.
What sets SS-31 apart is where it goes. Research shows that the peptide binds to cardiolipin, a fat-like substance in the inner membrane of the mitochondria: the parts of the cell where energy is released. Research into SS-31 therefore centres on that membrane and on the way mitochondria handle energy.
Another peptide from mitochondrial research is MOTS-c, which is encoded in the DNA of the mitochondria themselves. Related within recovery research are BPC-157 and TB-500.
